WINNER OF THE MEDITERRANEAN GREEN AWARD 2024

The SLEC project has been awarded the Mediterranean Green Award 2024 for its promotion of the energy and climate transition in a region at risk due to climate change, and for its training work to achieve environmentally sustainable territories, fostering Euro-Mediterranean regional cooperation.

Project SLEC

France + Morocco

The SLEC (Local Energy-Climate Service) project responds to the challenges of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region (TTAH): energy dependence exceeding 95%, increasing energy consumption primarily from fossil fuels, a tendency toward declining water reserves, and the impact of climate change.

SLEC builds on past initiatives also carried out in collaboration with the French SUD Region (Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur). The two regions organized the MedCOP Climate in Marseille (2015) and Tangier (2016), and developed the Mediterranean Climate House, based in Tangier, and the Energy Information Center based in Chefchaouen.

SLEC contributes to improving urban resilience and greening, ensuring the social openness of cities, and enhancing innovation. It enables ecological territorial planning at the urban level, facilitated by governance mechanisms and energy education, to achieve sustainable territories whose economy is based on green professions. SLEC is made up of a team and resources housed in eight eco-efficient and bioclimatic locations. This public service serves as a sustainable development centre that will also be a resource and incubation centre for green sectors.
